Tria Luminaria: The Three Lights are taking flight!
Tria Luminaria will be hosted by three of the ILP’s Lighting Delivery Centres (LDCs): ILP London, WLP, and YLP. Taking place on 23rd January at Introba, this event will feature exciting and important discussions about exterior lighting and lighting design. This is the first joint event between the three LDCs, which will provide an expansive knowledge-sharing opportunity.
Moreover, the event marks the first anniversary of the Women Lighting Professionals’ formation. Over the last twelve months, the WLP has carved out space for women lighting designers and engineers to network, mentor, and champion important causes such as their recent online panel discussion 'More than Movember.’ to raise awareness for men's mental health on International Men's Day.
WLP Chair Kimberly Bartlett said, “A year to the day since we officially launched WLP, it made perfect sense to return to our birthplace at 150 Holborn to celebrate everything we have achieved so far and our incredible plans for the future.”.
Looking back at the WLP’s aims and objectives, Kimberly said, “Over the past year we have risen to provide a voice and a home to all at the ILP, offering support, guidance, and community for all members. It’s been quite the ride, but we have definitely ‘gone up in the world,’ as they say, so a realisation of that metaphor bringing us to 150’s sky garden and pavilion on the 8th floor is not just an amazing view but a far-reaching vision for the future of WLP and the institution as a whole.”
What does Tria Luminaria mean? It’s a Latin term that means ‘The Three Lights.’ The three LDCs hosting this event represent each light. In terms of how this event came to be, YLP Chair Tom Lewis said, “The idea was brought to me by Katerina Xynogala, who is a part of both the YLP & WLP committees, as a follow-up to an event we previously held for the YLP. I was already looking to partner up with the WLP for an event, so this was perfect timing.”
Tom reflects on the impact the branches have had on him. “It’s helped me grow in confidence and branch out my network within the industry. I don’t come from a technical background within street lighting, so I have sometimes felt like an imposter within the ILP, but holding the various roles I have so far has helped me understand there is a role for everyone within our industry.”
“Cross-working within the ILP is so important, especially when it comes to technical events. So far I’ve found that when two groups have worked together on an event, you end up seeing new faces at your events that you probably wouldn’t have seen at our solo run events. So it’s great for networking.”
Tom concluded, “I would like to thank firstly the sponsors DW Windsor and CU Phosco for helping cover the costs of lunch and also Introba for hosting us. But also all three ILP Committees of the YLP/WLP/London LDC for pulling together to get this event up and running with hopefully great attendance and some enjoyable CPD and discussions.”
Kimberly concluded, “We are delighted to join with our friends at YLP and LDC London to be a part of this groundbreaking Tria Luminaria (three lights) event. It’s not our first groundbreaker and won’t be our last. See you there!”
