Lighting Live Annual Conference 2025 | Speakers Spotlight ‘Stephen Paye, Martyn Dancer and Luke Pritchard'

Stephen 'Steve' Paye (Regional Director – Highway Electrical), Martyn Dancer (Interim Regional Director, PFI’s South) and Luke Pritchard (Highway Electrical Training & NVQ Centre Manager/Lead IQA/Assessor/Trainer) are part of Enerveo.

Steve started his career in the electrical industry, working at a company that manufactured transformers. During this period, Steve developed his interest in the electrical industry before commencing a career in lighting. Steve began his lighting career at SSE Contracting, where he has over 23 years of experience in the electrical and lighting industries.

He is a City & Guilds trained electrician and became a team manager in 2006 after completing the trainee managers programme at SSE Contacting, gaining experience in management, work planning, customer relations and an insight into the financial side of the business.

In 2017 he became a Contracts Manager, looking after TMC contracts until February 2022 when he became the interim head of Operations, overseeing the regional lighting business. In October 2023 Steve was appointed as the Regional Director for Highway Electrical, overseeing the Regional Lighting business at Enerveo.

Martyn is currently responsible for the Southern region PFI’s (Hampshire, Southampton, Dorset, West Sussex, London Borough of Islington, and London Borough of Ealing). Martyn started his career as an electrical apprentice in 1987 with an electrical contractor based in Andover, and during this apprenticeship was involved in varying projects, including industrial, residential, commercial, and agricultural installations.

In 1993 he started his journey in the lighting industry as a reactive maintenance electrician, working on the Hampshire term maintenance contract and continued in this role until 1992 when he was promoted to the role of electrical supervisor, he continued in this role until 2004 where he was promoted to the position of Assistant Contracts Manager.

In 2010 when the South Coast PFI started, Martyn was quickly promoted to the position of Operations Manager on the Southampton PFI and stayed in the role for two years before being asked to run the Dorset PFI which he did for five years when he returned to the South Coast PFI looking after both the Hampshire and Southampton contracts.

Martyn was seconded to the role of Regional Director in March 2024 and continues in that role today. Martyn is going to discuss his career journey from Apprentice to Regional Director to highlight the importance and benefits of apprenticeships.

Luke began their highways lighting career as a trainee/apprentice in 2007, spending their time on site working with more than 20 colleagues to build a portfolio of competency evidence, allowing the completion of L2 and L3 highways electrical NVQ.

In 2012, Luke progressed onto the role of trainer within the company. Having spent over 5 years on the receiving end of training and development, Luke had a keen eye for the delivery styles and standards to be achieved within the centre, initially delivering training courses and quickly progressing onto the role of NVQ Assessor.

Today, Luke holds the roles of training & NVQ centre manager, lead IQA, assessor, trainer and mental health first aider with Enerveo LTD, demonstrating just one of the many potential pathways that an apprenticeship can lead to.

Their paper 'Apprenticeships' will revolve around highway electrical apprenticeships, why we choose to have apprentices at Enerveo and how someone can benefit from either taking up an apprenticeship or bringing apprentices into your business.
