Lighting Live Annual Conference 2025 | Speaker Spotlight ‘Guy Harding'
Guy Harding is the Technical Manager at the Institution of Lighting Professionals. Guy completed a BSc (Hons) in Metallurgy at Brunel University 1985, following this he worked in the domestic electrical appliance industry for three years before commencing a career in lighting. He has over 37 years of experience in the of field and lighting and electrical design, working both in manufacturing and consulting.
Guy started his lighting journey working for Urbis Lighting as an Applications Engineer and was promoted first to Senior Development Engineer and then Product Development Manager, with responsibility for managing the Product Development team at Urbis. Guy then became the Manager of R-Tech Basingstoke, setting up the first R&D facility of the Schréder Group outside of Belgium.
After a year in consultancy with Jacobs Babtie, Guy joined Woodhouse (Now Marshalls) as Lighting Development Manager in 2006, developing specialist decorative luminaires and incorporating LEDs into public furniture, working with DALI and DMX controls and designing electrical systems. During this time, he developed the Coda luminaire which was “Commended” at LuxLive in 2013. Guy has also written and presented many RIBA accredited CPD sessions for clients.
Joining Sill Lighting in 2016 as Technical Manager, Guy gained experience in architectural lighting and gained extensive knowledge of RELUX software for façade and sports lighting. When Sammode purchased the Sill/Hoffmeister Group , Guy became the UK Manager for the group, selling three European lighting brands within the UK.
Guy joined Designs for Lighting in 2020 and spent two years as Design Manager before being appointed Technical Manager at the ILP in 2022. Guy has appeared as an expert witness in a design rights case at the Patents County Court and also holds two patents in lighting.
He has served as both Vice President Membership and Vice President Engineering Council for the ILP and is a membership assessor and chair of the Membership Committee. He has lectured on the ELD for over 30 years and has presented papers at the ILP conference and at regional events. Guy has also served on the Executive Board as Assistant Honorary Treasurer.
Guy's session ' Do you suffer from Glossophobia? (Fear of public speaking)' aims to encourage more of our members to deliver their CPDs to our colleagues at local and national events, with confidence. Other topics include:

- Overcoming nerves with practice and confidence
- How shy people can make good presenters
- Practical tips on using PowerPoint, body language and engaging your audience
