Lighting Live Annual Conference 2025 | Speaker Spotlight 'David Dunn'
David Dunn is the Assistant Group Manager of Street Lighting at Glasgow City Council. David Dunn has worked in engineering for the last 40 years. He has been a Contractor, Consultant and Client in the UK and the Middle East. David has worked on many of the largest projects in the world during his time in the Middle East, where he was initially a Consultant involved in the design of 12 major cities, as the Infrastructure Technical Manager and later as the Lighting Expert for the Abu Dhabi Government Sector.
David has also worked on sustainable projects, from solar street lighting to hydroponic/aquaponic farming and Electric Vehicle charging for the Presidential office of His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan. David can look at engineering issues from all sides and provide technical assessments and solutions.
In his role, David looks after 77,000 streetlights, which are currently being retrofitted to LED with control through the Intelligent Street Lighting system. David contributes to technical documents, prepares articles for engineering magazines and sits on the ILP Scottish LDA as Vice Chair.
David’s Paper-Glasgow Then and Now- will look at the evolution of the lighting network of Glasgow over the years to the present day. It will outline the changes being carried out now and the challenges faced in updating an ageing network in a large city, and their resolutions.
