Synopsis- Interoperability in road and street lighting is best understood as the ability of hardware, communications networks, software platforms and data models from different suppliers to work together with predictable performance, manageable security and acceptable lifecycle cost. This paper discusses what does interoperability really mean; what does it look like in practice and the potential for future smart city developments.

Lee Gunner, Director, LightPaD.
Synopsis- Did you know the extent of light pollution is considered to be greater than plastic in our oceans, but is so much easier to clean up? We are only recently beginning to learn how our environment responds to out of place artificial light, and how ill-judged illumination can adversely affect natural cycles.
In this special session, Lee Gunner, of LightPaD, will discuss the adverse effects poorly considered lighting can have, the history, the science, improvements in design and look at how the latest research can improve our approach.
2.30pm - Session 4
Anthony Smith, Director, Stainton Lighting Design Services.
Synopsis- Anthony will discuss SLDS’s experience in achieving the ISO44001 Standard Collaborative Working. This paper will outline the benefits of this standard, defining the challenges in making this standard work for a sub-contractor and noting key elements and pitfalls in developing a system to achieve this complex standard.
