Cycling is expected to play an important, sustainable transport role in the future, particularly as an alternative to the car for short journeys. If this goal is to be achieved, then cycling must be seriously promoted as an around-the-clock means of transport, rather than just a daytime activity.

This document will:

  • Help lighting designers by considering in detail some of the issues relating to the lighting of cycle tracks.
  • Contain constructive advice on how the relevant lighting standards should be applied.
  • Give recommendations on a wide variety of topics such as lighting levels, selection of equipment, lighting arrangements and many other topics related to cycle tracks.
