This technical report, a revision of the report produced in 1997, provides guidance on the approach for evaluating the lighting required in locations where pedestrians are encouraged to cross the road. In updating the report, consideration has been given to the experiences gained from the recommendations of the original report, the advances in lighting technology and the requirements of BS EN 13201-2: 2003 and BS 5489-1: 2003.
