One of the most ground-breaking initiatives happening now

Nov 12, 2019 | Projects

“I believe it is one of the most ground-breaking initiatives happening in the industry right now. It could potentially become one of the most influential forums to help shape the future of lighting design by uniting research, studies and knowledge with designers, manufacturers and industry professionals to implement conscious and responsive design.”

That’s the verdict from Lee Painter, Lighting Designer at BDP, who attended the launch of Lighting For Good recently. An evening of talks highlighted the importance of this new knowledge sharing platform.

Mark Sutton Vane of Sutton Vane Associates spoke about the lighting of the venue, Neuron Pod, followed by a succession of talks on ‘knowledge for the future’ from

  • Dr Jemima Unwin, UCL
  • Dr Alejandro Sanchez de Miguel, University of Exeter
  • Dr Navaz Davoudian, UCL
  • Kerem Asfuroglu: Dark Source
  • Don Slater, LSE/Configuring Light
  • Kimberly Bartlett, ILP VP Education

The evening was chaired and moderated by Graham Festenstein, ILP Vice President Architectural and Greta Smetoniute, Michael Grubb Studio.

Lighting for Good is an online platform for lighting researchers, designers, engineers and manufacturers where…

  • Practitioners can ask for evidence about lighting issues
  • Designers and manufacturers can find answers to support their design recommendations
  • MSc and PhD students can get ideas and support with topics for their dissertations
  • Students, researchers and companies can find collaborators The Lighting for Good team hopes that this will lead to more useful, relevant evidence for the profession to benefit from.
