About the talk

In the last decade or two, innovations in affordable pixel-based LED and high-capacity dynamic control made the kinetic media façade a popular element in architecture and lighting.

However, has the novelty worn off? Does the content always make the best use of the building? What is the impact on urban space of giant video screens? In the age of sustainable design, are media facades an acceptable solution in many locations?

Whilst there are situations where media facades can make sense, there are other ways of achieving dynamic building exteriors. It isn’t always about creating a giant TV…

About the speaker

Iain is an expert in the technology of light and lighting and has become a leading authority on lighting control and associated topics. He manages much of the CPD for the design team st Speirs Major – the independent, award-winning, international design practice that uses light and darkness to enhance the visual environment

He has volunteered for the Institution of Lighting Professionals for many years, helping them share knowledge which results in places that are better for people and the planet. The ILP describe him as ‘the enthusiastic, honest, encouraging lighting mentor we wish every student had on tap. Come to this session to meet the legend in person!’
